This interview comes from the figure skating magazine Piriouette By Tatjana Flade: On a bright sunny day in June we meet Evgeni Plushenko in ST. Petersburg. In the sakting shop at the rink Jubilejnij we catch him looking for ice hockey sticks and skates.... Q: What? You want to give up figure skating and switch to ice hockey? Evgeni: Yes! (laughs) I already played hockey with friends at the the COI tour last year in New York. I never played here but now I want to do it from time to time. Q: In a hobby team? Evgeni: No, only with acquaintances. Q: How are you doing on the COI tour? You only have a week break in St. Petersburg then the tour goes on till August. Evgeni: It is like always on tour - it is fun! But is is also a bit hard. I already did 50 shows and I still have 43 shows to do. That means much work and a lot of drives but the audience is very good. Q: What do you like best on tour? Evgeni: That we are always on the road and that we are always busy. Evrywhere are other arenas and other things around. Q: And what do you not like? Evgeni: Not? Actually evrything is great! You have to always show yourself and work and thats great. That also helps me for the future. Evry performance in front of the puplic also helps at competition. Evry performance is great. Q: The last season was difficult for you, you had injuries, you couldn't be at the Euros and Worlds and defend your titles and at the Olympic Games you fell in the short program, how did you get over it? Evgeni: Of course, it was hard for me. But what should I do? Evrything goes on, there will be other competitions and life goes on. I find new strength, I already found it. I forgot evrything and thats it. Q: Do you have already ideas and plans for the new season? Evgeni: Now we are working on a new free skate. We will surely try it, try a new variation. I don't know if it works. The music is of course a secret. We will also do a new short program. We thought about to keep "Carmen", I only skated it once, but then we thought - new program for the new season. Q: How do you spend your spare time at home? Evgeni: I spend the time with my parents, go for a walk with my dog. It is unfortunately not much time, only one week. I also want to meet my friends, I have to train, have new skates and make new programs, time flies with that.
