Q: This is the first time that you have ever compete in China. What impression do you have to the Chinese audiences?

Evgeni: They are very good and loud. To my surprise, many Russians showed up and cheered for me. I came here mainly for the competition, so I don't have much time to tour around, but I have seen so many beautiful buildings outside the rink, and have felt the passion of the fans. I think I will have more chances to know Beijing and China better.

Q: What is your expectation for the Winter Olympics?

Evgeni: That's my ultimate dream. I have countless champion titles, save the Olympic title. If in Turin 2006 I could preform as good as I did here in Beijing, or maybe a little better, this dream will come true. If possible, I hope I will be able to take part in the 2012 winter Olympics.

Q: Many fans think you are a genius in figure skating.

Evgeni: I am a common player rather than a genius. I have my fans whom I am proud of, the excellent coach and supporting parents. Enough? The medals I earned belong to them as much as they belong to me. Support from the fans, my coach and parents are the most important in my career. I'd like to emphasize that I have never considered myself a genius.

Q: Sickness and injuries are your enemies. How are you now?

Evgeni: I have quite a few injuries, especially the injuries of my back and my knee. I remember when I was 13, once I couldn't get off my bed in the morning because my back hurt so much. Now sickness and injuries still bother me, but they will not hold me back from competing on ice.

Q: Figure skating have brought you glory as well as injuries. What encourages you to move forward?

Evgeni: It was my mother when I was young. She took me to the rink when I was four years old, and I loved it eventually. Now the force behind me is that I love competition, I love the feeling of win, and I long for more gold medals.

Q: Most of the good Russian players are trained in Europe or the US. Why do you insist on training in Russia?

Evgeni: It's simple; I am a patriot. I love Russia. I love my hometown. Why go aboard? I have everything in Russia. For me it is good enough to have a rink for training, and to be able to stay with family and friends.

Q: Who do you think are the best male skater?

Evgeni: Every one.

Q: What kind of gift would you like for the New Year?

Evgeni: Health, and being able to be with my fans, my coach and my parents. To be honest, I feel like I have everything else, and health is the only thing I would ask for.
