TV interview right after winning his silver medal at Olympics:
Here at the 19th Olympic games, is the silver medallist Evgeny Pluskenko. Good morning, by Moscow time.
Evgeni: Good morning.
(the commentator is looking at the a tv screen, and Evgeny smiles at the screen)
Q: Here are your fans (they're on the tv screen), my first question is: How do you judge your performance in whole including the SP and the LP, because the fourth place after the SP was disappointing, and second place over all was good.
Evgeni: We will start from the short program, it didn't work out for me, I didn't complete the most important jump, 4-3. Overall after the SP I was in fourth place, and I was very disappointed, because I came here to win the gold medal. However after that I gathered myself, and skated the LP as I would have liked to, and I think it was a good skate. (pointing to the screen, his LP is showed) - this is the most difficult combination 4-3-3. And before this moment I have never done it, and I tried it here at the most biggest and important games, the Olympics. So in general I am very satisfied.
Q: What was the cause of your unsuccessfulness during the SP, was it the nerves, emotions?
Evgeni: You know, I really can't answer that question. I went out, skated tried, like at all the other competitions, like at the Worlds, Europeans, Russian Nationals.
However after the third rotation I opened up in the air and wasn't able to complete the combination 4-3.
Q: Your LP was the most complicated one, looking at the elements you completed. Was there anything which you personally didn't like, and would like to work on.
Evgeni: Definitely. Every performance can't be ideal. When you look at the TV and see your mistakes and your faults. Of course you can strengthen your spins, footwork, speed. Since it is so high in elevation it was quit hard to skate. Such hardness to skate I have never experienced anywhere else. I don't know perhaps it was because it was the Olympics, for the reasoning behind of why it was so hard to skate. I can strengthen the program even more, by adding one more quad to my program.
Q: So does the Olympic atmosphere really differ in comparison to all the other competitions?
Evgeni: I really tried not to think about that, I tried to go out and think of it as any other competition. For example the living conditions, here you live with all the other figure skaters, this I have never seen before (smile). Usually I always leave alone, or with Tehonov or Anton. But here we live seven people. Of course this is very unusual for me. Every one says "Olympics" ," Olympics". What can I say, the worlds are every year, so there is a chance to skate every year. So I will perform again. However the Olympics are different.
Q: Are you planning on performing at the next Olympics?
Evgeni: Definitely, of course I am planning on performing. If my health will let me I would like to perform for the next ten years.
Anton Sikharulidze (Olympic gold medalist in pairs skating) is interviewing Evgeni:
Anton: Zenya, first of all I would like to congratulate you on your win of the Olympic silver medal. Good job, thank you very much, and now the question is, are you happy your self?
Evgeni: First of all I would like to thank you. We will first start with the SP. The SP was disappointing, the main combination didn't work out. LP, I am very pleased with. I made a step forward in figure skating, and I tried the most difficult jump 4-3-3. As well I did 3A-1/2L-3F. in whole I am very satisfied.
Anton: was it scary for you to do a new LP for the Olympics.
Evgeni: We weren't thinking of whether it was scary or not, we were just doing it, and tried to do a good one, and we were very successful. We did a good program.
Anton: Yes you were successful, and the program was very good, and I think that all the viewers were very happy to see it.
Evgeni is there anything else you would like to say to your viewers and fans in Russia.
Evgeni: Peter (St. Petersburg), hello, I love you, thank you for supporting me, I will always be with you.
