October 2, 2004:
Untill October 3rd Evgeni skates at "Prince Ice World", I got a message directly from Japan:
"Zhenya skated new short program (Moonlight Sonata - Beethoven) and free skate (Godfather).
I tell you about free skate. He skated the Godfarther, but
the music is not from the soundtrack. Edvin Marton arranged the music for Zhenya.
In the program, Edvin used the famous main theme two times, but most parts
sounded like another music. It was just cool. He weared the "Once upon at time in America" costume.
In the short program, he weared the "St. Petersburg 300" costume."
Today started the "Prince Ice World" shows in Fukuoka/Japan and Evgeni arrived yesterday. HERE is a picture.

has some news about Evgeni's future plans where Alexei Mishin said that he won't do as much competitions as before, it wasn't specific but this most likely means he will not do the Grand Prix Series but only shows to get more rest untill his most important goal, the Olympic Games 2006 but also the World Championships 2005 in Moscow. It is possible though that the first competition might be the Russian Nationals and then the European Championships but I don't know anything for sure now. If I get a translation of that article I'll post it on this place.
Here is a recent picture of Evgeni at his summer practice: (click on photo to enlarge)
Evgeni is on the cover of the new issue of the German skating Magazine Eissport Magazin.

Sixty skaters are participating in the exhibition on Jaca ice rink,
Alexei Mishin host the international course with Plushenko as the main star.
The international training camp from the prestigious russian coach Alexei Mishin is once more in Jaca, place that the coach appreciates because "it has good ice rink instalations in a quite city" which allows him to get the best results from the number of skaters that, from a lot of coutries, come to the especialized training camp, among them the russian champion Evgeni Plushenko.
This skater would be, the main star of the first exhibition of figure skating that, as usual, takes place in every edition of Mishin's training camp. Plushenko will show again this Saturday (August 7) to the Jaca people his professionalism and artistic gift in a show that will count with several of the 60 skaters of other countries that had come to the training camp: besides from Russia, they are champions and several figures from Germany, Belgium, Sweden, Holland, England, Italy, Hungary, Switzerland, USA and Spain, among with the Jaca athletes.
Plushenko couldn't save his grandmother.
The figure skater brought her by car from Volgograd, but Petersburg doctors were powerless.
The grandma of the famous skater lived in a 16 story building on the outskirts of a Volgograd's region Spartanovka. In 1997 when Plushenko and his parents finalized their move to Petersburg the family didn't sell that apartnemt. In addition, Zhenya came to visit his native town and stayed there. When Zhenya learned that his grandma wasn't feeling well he didn't waste time: jumped in his Jeep and together with his mom and nephew rushed to the Volga. Together with Plushenko's family also came Plushenko's personal driver to switch off with Evgeni while driving. But still the world champion drove himself the whole way. That is 15 hours of driving!
Plushenko stayed in Volgograd several days. When he became sure that his grandma needs serious help he decided to get her to St. Petersburg the same way, meaning in his own car. In Petersburg the patient was send to a hospital on Vavilov street, but there was nothing to be done at that point: the woman passed away.
We send our condolences to Zhenya and to all his loved ones. The funeral will take place today.

SKATERS OF ST. PETERSBURG RECEIVED THANKS FROM THE PARLIAMENT OF THE CITY FOR THEIR SUCCESS
St. Petersburg. 26th of May. North-Western Interfax.
Deputies at the parliament of St. Petersburg sent their appreciation to the skaters of St.
Petersburg on Wednesday. These thanks were given to the world champions by an Interfax
correspondent.
Tatiana Totmianina and Maxim Marinin received their gratitudes personally. Evgeni
Plushenko’s thanks were sent to him by his coach Alexei Mishin. He thanked the deputies
for the high mark they have given to the skaters, and invited them to the celebration to be
held in the Ice Palace on the day of the city, in which many figure skating stars will
participate.
“Evgeni Plushenko wants to perform at the show, and we are searching for varieties
which will make him participate at the event. Today’s appreciation is the result of Zhenya’s
and the other skaters’ activeness.” said A. Mishin.
As it was told before, Evgeni Plushenko was settled into one of the Moscow hospitals
with the diagnosis otitis, but the possibility of him skating at the show is rather high.

The health of the Russian figure skater Evgeni Plushenko, who was hospitilized to the
36th city hospital in Moscow with left-sided otitis, doesn't give reasons for any fears.
Viktor Anikarov, the head doctor of the Russian figure skating team, informs us about it:
"Zhenya's cure is continued under the diagnosis otitis and bronchitis. Yesterday, he was
released from the hospital signing a contract in which he took the responsibility of coming
back the same day." said Anikanov. "As you know, the doctors wouldn't let the patient do
that unless the situation is safe enough. At the meeting which will be held today, it will be
decided which treatment will be more suitable in the constancy of his improvement.
The cure will be done in the same hospital. As far as I'm concerned, his coach isn't
tended on taking Plushenko back to St. Petersburg any time soon."
I finally could get the translation of the article of May 21:
http://www.kp.ru/daily/23281/29021/
“This morning I read somewhere such a delirium about
Zhenya, that I almost fell down from my chair,” –
Alexey Mishin shared his emotions with a “Smena”
reporter. – They wrote Plushenko walked through
Moscow, lost his consciousness, people found him… the
brain concussion… what drivel people can invent! In
fact he has the otitis in a sharp form. We thought it
would manage itself somehow. But when Zhenya had the
high temperature, we asked the team doctor Victor
Anikanov. He ordered: “He must go to the hospital!”. Pneumonia
was suspected, but it seemed not. But the doctors are
afraid the pus in theory might pass to the head. And
just in case, for avoiding the meningitis, put Zhenya
to a “reanimation” ward. But there is one more reason
I insisted on “reanimation” – for nobody could go to
Plushenko. Because those paparazzi are almost
everywhere. Go figure, yesterday the paparazzi from
one Moscow paper penetrated to the hospital and
secretly shot the doctor and me.
Maybe Zhenya has enough time to recover, - Alexey Nikolaevich
expressed his hope. – There are some chances.
St.Petersburg public wants to see him very much. But
if there is a tiny risk for his health, I won’t let
Plushenko to skate.”
This article

says that Evgeni's health has improved! Here is a translation:
Evgeni Plushenko is recovering.
Russian skater Evgeni Plushenko, multiple-times World champion, health is improving.
He was hospitalized at Moscow City Hospital 36 with otitis and pneumonia.
ICU supervisor Alexei Lazarevich told ITAR-Tass, "21-year-old Evgeni is feeling
better, his temperature is normal - 36.6. We think that his condition was caused
by a cold that wasn't taken care of when the skater was on the tour of Russian cities.
Usually, the patients with that diagnosis stay in the hospital for a week."
In another article http://www.sovsport.ru/news/default.asp?id=154435Alexei Mishin is telling that Evgeni won't be able to skate at his shows on May 28-29. Here is the translation:
Alexei Mishin thanks all Plushenko fans for the support.
In interview with ITAR-TASS, professor Alexei Mishin thanks the fans of Evgeni Plushenko,
a three-time world champion, for the support when the skater got sick.
Mishin said, "They constantly call me as well as the team's chief doctor Victor Anikanov
inquiring about his condition and future plans. I talked to Zhenya on the phone today.
His condition doesn't cause worries now. The doctors do everything they can to stop
the inflammatory process. His mood is OK, but being sick doesn't make anyone look better.
Everything will be back to the norm soon. His mom, Tatiana Vassilievna came
to visit him and she will stay with him until he completely recovers. I plan to take
him to St. Petersburg as soon as this Monday.
When asked about Plushenko's possible participating in the skating show next week in St. Petersburg, Mishin said that, "Evgeni will possible appear on the ice for the spectators, but he won't perform. He will only participate in the symbolic passing the champions fame torch to the young generation of St. Petersburg's skaters."

Alexei Mishin says in this interview:
Here is the translation (by Trinity):
Mishin told the reporter that "Zhenya has an otitis (inflammation of the middle ear). It's very unpleasant but not deadly. Where did he get it? The doctors say that most likely, it's because of numerous pressure changes that happen during the flights. Zhenya is in hospital in Moscow. He was supposed to participate in the exhibition in Podolsk with best Russian skaters. But look what happened... Naturally, Zhenya won't be going to Rostov where the next show is scheduled."
Q: Was his disease so serious that it is required putting Zhenya in ICU (Intensive Care Unit)?
Mishin: It's not that scary, don't worry. He was put in ICU to prevent complications. If you don't take care of otitis, there is a risk for meningitis.
Q: How long will Zhenya remain in the hospital?
Mishin: It's hard to say. The doctors say that the medicine is not exact science.
Q: Will the ice show in St. Petersburg still go on? It was scheduled for May 28-29 and Zhenya is the organizer.
Mishin: No doubt. There is a big chance that Zhenya will have time to recover. I am sure that the spectators won't be disapointed. Also, I want to use this opportunity to thank everyone who calls with the words of support for Zhenya and me (my phone is hot already). It is very nice and this support is very important to us.

Also the Russian figure skating federation vice President Oleg Nilov says that
Evgeni's state of health isn't as serious as some media reported about this. Lets hope for the best and wishing him a speedy recovery!
http://goskomsport.infosport.ru/xml/t/mainr.xml?nic=press&mid=1000&pid=641&lang=ru And a translation of it:
Evgeni Plushenko thinks he reached his goals last season winning the Worlds for the third time. Men’s figure skating World champion and Olympic silver medallist held a press-conference on Wednesday at the Interfax North-West agency.
He noted, “The last season was the most difficult – there were injuries, I’ve lost European, but the end of the season was great as I won Worlds”.
He thinks his losing at the Grand Prix Final was a “technical accident.”
He noted, “We didn’t learn the rules completely: the old system allowed doing three combination jumps, the new – only two.”
According to Plushenko, his health is much better now – he already played soccer and tennis. He is planning to be examined soon. At the same time, the skater stated that he doesn’t need surgery and he doesn’t have the same pressure now as he had the last season.
The skater came back from America on Wednesday after being on tour for the month. He said he was greeted well in the USA but noted that he likes to perform at home better.
Plushenko admitted that he dreams of performing all the quads and that’s “very difficult”, as well as of winning the Olympics and that “also difficult but realistic”.
When asked about possibility of turning professional, the skater said, “I like to compete, I can’t live without the fight, and professionals don’t have it. If my health will be all right, maybe be I’ll skate as amateur.”
Plushenko explained his participation in different shows, saying, “I love to skate. People love figure skating, and I can show it and bring joy to people with my performances.”
When asked who he sees as his rival, Plushenko said, “Everyone”. Still, he named Brian Joubert, Stefan Lambiel, and Takeshi Honda. In his opinion, the eastern expansion in figure skating will grow since Chinese and Japanese skaters already do the difficult quads.
Translation by Trinity
Evgeni skated next to last before Michelle Kwan, and he did a beautiful number.
He came on the ice wearing a red shirt and black pants and he skated to one
of the most beautiful numbers I had ever seen him skate to. It was a song I
had never heard before however, I think it was called "I Was Born To Love
You" from Queen. It was such a beautiful song, that while he was skating, I found
myself really trying to listen to the words of this song as well as watch him skate.
Usually, I try to watch the movements of the skater but this time I was trying to
watch him and listen to the words of the song and I just found it a bit overwhelming.
He skated perfectly with no falls and it was the best number in the show. The song
was very "up-beat" and kind of fast, however it was so beautiful because it was
about love.
