Prince Ice World

Report from Maya:

Oct.1-3 2004 (5 shows)

I attended the Prince Ice World in Fukuoka, and I saw the show 4 times. He skated his new short program ("Sonata N14" from the album of Viktor Zinchuk), and free program ("The Godfather" composed by Edvin Marton). In the short program he wore the costume of "St. Petersburg 300", and in the free skate he wore the costume of "Once upon a time in America". His hair was very short as if he returned to teens. He looked so fine and show the audience his emotional performance, but he took care of jumps. In the 3 shows he didn't jump quads or 3 axel jumps, but in the last show he landed a 3 axel. I write my impression about his new programs from the last show.

Moonlight Sonata N14:
3 toe, 2 axel, camel spins, circular steps, 3 flip (maybe the rink was too small to jump 3 lutz), sit spins, straight lign steps, combination spins The music by the electric guitar was cool and beautiful, and Evgeni's circular and straight steps were very stylish. I liked them. And I felt the program had the classical mood a little too. But I thought the music was too slow for his skating. "Adagio" was the slow music too, but I felt as if the tempo of "Sonata N14" was more slowly than it. Though each element is beautiful, I didn't still feel theme of this program clearly. Of course, this is just my opinion. However I know he has just begun to skate this program, so I'm sure that I can see his complete short program when I will see it next time.

The Godfather:
3 axel (In other 3 shows I thought he landed 3 toe at the first), 3 toe, 3 lutz from the eagle, circular steps, a butterfly, spiral and camel spin, staraight lign steps, continuous butterflies, combination spins It was just the exciting program!! I loved, loved it. It was full of the fast steps and movements. Many people remember that Philippe Candeloro performed "Godfather (the life of Corleone)" wonderfully in his 4 programs, and the impression was great. However Edvin Marton composed the great music for Evgeni, based on "The Godfather". I think that Evgeni expresses the essence of music but not the story of the movie. It was just COOL program. The program starts quietly with the main theme of "The Godfather". But as soon as Evgeni landed the first jump, the famous music changes to the fast and strong music which Edvin composed. And he uses this theme again in the slow part. In the program Evgeni jumped only 3 times. Of course, this version which I saw was for the exhibitions. When he will skate this program at the competitions, I can't imagine when he would add other jumps at all. I'm looking forward to seeing it again.
